Ottawa Serbian Theatre is the first registered Serbian theatre in North America, and it is an entirely non-profit organization that was founded on January 21st, 2003. The Serbian community in Ottawa requested more attention to be shown towards their rich culture. Thirteen enthusiasts (Aneta Cvjeticanin, Snezana Jakšic, Nemanja Janjatovic, Gordana and Milivoje Jevtovic, Ivan Jovic, Ljubica Lazarevic, Rajko Pajcin, Goran Pop-Jordanov, Vildana and Dimitrije Stanišic-Keller, Ljilja and Stanko Trivuncic) with different professional backgrounds and various artistic skills decided to establish a theater in order to acknowledge this request.

 Our mandate is both Serbian and Canadian in its nature - we aim to produce, present and promote Serbian and English language plays; which entertain the audience, while also challenging and provoking previously held viewpoints. The choice of plays and theatre performances are aimed to reflect the highest quality of stage artistry. The Ottawa Serbian Theatre intends to work on a variety of other types of artistic expressions with the goal of gathering as many individuals as possible who are interested in working in all different art forms. Even though our priority is to represent Serbian playwrights, we will also work on plays written by internationally known theatre artists. This way, the Ottawa Serbian Theatre will not only introduce Serbian theatre to the North American public, but will also offer a glimpse into the world of theatrical literature with performances of the highest quality.
